Don’t let anyone tell you how it “should” be.
Let me tell you what a family member’s opinion is:
It’s words coming out of another person’s mouth.
You don’t have to believe it. You don’t have to think it shouldn’t be their opinion.
You don’t have to think anything more about it than the raw reality that it is: words.
You can be there with them — whether physically or emotionally — and not have to make their words mean anything more.
It’s just what happens when you have a bunch of humans together who care about each other but also have their own inner issues.
Certain family members may bash me for simply being who I am.
What am I gonna do about it? Bash them back and fuel the drama? Silently boil them with my stare and stew in anger? Pity myself and think that everything is awful and wrong?
Or look at that person as another person, allow them to have their thoughts, send them some version of love and carry on with being me.
When they disapprove and rant and rage and play their games, they have to experience those negative emotions.
I don’t have to.
